A Quisling Or Two Of Big Data.

An occasional brief chronicle of the goings on of this or that day, maybe. A few, minimal, samples of one’s creative writing, well, O.K. And a brief C.V. with a simple blind contact option; that is to become the personal site of the near future. Any public content more, and the blogger/poster/writer will risk appearing to be in cahoots with Big Data.

And like Big Oil and Big Pharma, an association with Big Data will be akin to hanging with Big Tobacco. It will stink, and stain, and cast an ominous cloud over your “over abundant public” content. And the “righteous” will be pointing at you, and bemoaning how in over sharing you’re complicit in helping Big Data steal, and wheel and deal, our personal and collective privacy.

From The NYT June 28, 2018

“SAN FRANCISCO — California has passed a digital privacy law granting consumers more control over and insight into the spread of their personal information online, creating one of the most significant regulations overseeing the data-collection practices of technology companies in the United States.

The bill raced through the State Legislature without opposition on Thursday and was signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown, just hours before a deadline to pull from the November ballot an initiative seeking even tougher oversight over technology companies.”

The most telling thing above is that Silicon Valley folded at the first notion of a public referendum, and settled to spread some money around to keep it in the legislature. The political realm. Where lobbying and tons of bit and byte bucks will salt the data mining for years. And you can best believe other State legislatures will join this privacy gold rush.

And on-line privacy activist, both the professional and well-meaning amateur, will point out, and loudly, that your sixth post of the week, again includes share buttons for Facebook and Twitter, and other Big Brother Big Data types. And to expand that Big Tobacco metaphor  above, in providing those links you are guilty of, in the very least, spreading the Big Data harvesting equivalence of second hand smoke.

Blogging, personal posting, on the old WWW is going to change. A perfect fecal storm of a possible sham and scam of politics via manipulation of mass amounts of personal data will dictate a different personal posting protocol.

You don’t have to change anything yet. But change is coming. And soon.

I’m spry yet retired. I reside in the inner city of a major metropolitan area of the United States. I read politics. I watch baseball. I hum along with the tune. I June swoon, and moon the bad poem. Post here, are old and new. Opinions are my very own, except when wrong.
