I Need Immunity

I need immunity
from Chicago spring
that clammy conceit
in a damn dank big town
that frowns on any breeze
that isn’t marrow hunting, bone seeking,
and all around a next corner creeping,
windchill whisperer,

…as if winter here isn’t full throated enough

But wait

a few seventy degree days in February
and the neighbors went wow and the bow wows
sniffed gentle air, butts up, in disbelieve
and those
many minors’ outdoor voices doubled
in decibels
with each single digit rise of mercury…
all memory now

and I knew it then
and now again,
among those premature green shoots,
the raw meanders

Snz says this is an old man’s weather Jeremiah
