ceremony is by nature caustic
a public promise of ritual rote
a paint by numbers embroider
of off the rack adornment
sew new this seamless sham

and communal shame is set aside
as hee-haw cuts the cake
a cutting-edge slice of a
roll of the dice- 
cast
as House money

the simple scissored
as they must be
collared and cuffed
in collective self-loathing
celebrants of nothing certain
but convinced the hem will hold

I’m spry yet retired. I reside in the inner city of a major metropolitan area of the United States. I read politics. I watch baseball. I hum along with the tune. I June swoon, and moon the bad poem. Post here, are old and new. Opinions are my very own, except when wrong.
