Poets,
round these parts,
seem to shy from politics
the pick-up sticks of
keeping the show moving

and that surprises,
yours truly,
as the rule of the unruly
is to parse pain and promise
linguistically, and simultaneously
in an inarticulate NOW.

you campaign in poetry
you govern in prose
is an old adage that doesn’t
quite, add up…

as.. four score and seven,
