K-9 On Your Own Time

So, we are talkin’ around
getting rid of the dog
pawning the puppy
on another

It’s to rescue me
I pout and proffer
-the old man I’m
becoming finding
voice-

He’s a young and dumb
heart enlarging
vein collapsing
nerve stapling
formerly homeless
farty little bastard

So, we are talkin’ around
getting rid of the dog
pawning the puppy
on another
and we will revisit this conversation
situationally
month after month
year after year-
I’m sure

The pound called him Koda. I changed a letter.

Coda |ˈkōdə|
noun Music
the concluding passage of a piece or movement, typically forming an addition to the basic structure.
• the concluding section of a dance, esp. of a pas de deux or the finale of a ballet in which the dancers parade before the audience.
• a concluding event, remark, or section : his new novel is a kind of coda to his previous books.
ORIGIN mid 18th cent.: Italian, from Latin cauda ‘tail.’

Fitting, as I suspect he’s to be my last dog. As always, I can make it all about me.
